The Hampaturi is a rural valley located 30 minutes from the center of La Paz. Hampaturi Valley is a “living landscape” that supports local economies and economies tightly linked to the city of La Paz. The spectacular canyons and rivers of Hampaturi provide La Paz with drinking water and hydroelectric energy as well as important supplies of fresh produce and dairy products. During the half- and full-day treks you will pass through a handful of small farming communities and our guides will provide you with an interpretation of their economies and the ecological tier (in this case, “Cabecera de Valle” or Valley Head) that supports them. On the two-day overnight camping trip you will sleep at an altitude of 4300m at the base of La Paz’s closest glacier and visit a series of High Andean Lakes and observe the flora and fauna adapted to extreme altitudes and ecological conditions.
