Enjoy the spectacular wild-life of the Beni Pampas grasslands and riverine forests on our three-day expedition to the Santa Rosa de Yucuma Municipal Protected Area, the first municipal protected area in the country. We depart from Rurrenabaque town en route to the dusty town of Santa Rosa de Yucuma and along the way we are likely to see sloths, anteaters, birds, and other animals. Once we reach Santa Rosa we board wooden canoes and head upriver to Las Tortugas eco-lodge. After settling into our cabins we’ll have a typical lunch and once the heat passes we take a walk to Bravo Lake for a bit of piranha fishing, some birdwatching, and a magical sunset. After dinner, we will take a short boat trip to look for the eyes of animals by torchlight.
On our second day we begin with a good breakfast and then take head back om the river for a day of some of the world’s best wildlife observation. The forests along the river are a refuge from the wide-open grasslands that surround you and you can observe caiman, capybara, turtles, dolphins, monkeys, and many different birds. We will return to the eco-lodge for lunch and after a rest we will go in search of a suitable place to swim with the dolphins – depending on the time of year.
Today we get up early to watch the sunrise and listen to the sounds of daybreak: the cries of monkeys and birdsong. After breakfast, we will take a short walk in the Pampas to look for the impressive anaconda before returning to the lodge for lunch and then heading back to Rurrenabaque. Please note: This program may change depending on weather conditions.
