Leave La Paz and El Alto behind as we head to the Tiwanaku Archeological Site. The 1.5 hour-long rides to Tiwanaku will take you on a scenic journey through the “altiplano” or high plateau region around La Paz and sacred Lake Titicaca. At the UNESCO recognized site we’ll explore the main temples, including the Pyramids of Akapana and Kalasasaya and the Gateways to the Sun and Moon. In addition to the traditional examples of Tiwanaku architecture, giant monoliths and figurative representations are scattered throughout the complex. We will also visit Pumapunku, known for huge monolithic stone structures that are still a mystery to archeologists today. Be part of the mystery of this complex architecture and the hidden messages in each stone.
